Furnace From the Black Lagoon
Fall has come to the Inland Northwest. The winds howl and you can picture the soon arriving snow piling up outside. That’s when you first hear it, the ancient, menacing presence lurking in the bowels of your home. For most of the year it has been lying dormant, but as the temperature drops, it stirs to life. We are, of course, referring to your furnace—like the Creature from the Black Lagoon, it has been hidden in the dark depths waiting for its chance to bring doom to your home.
The Beast Awakens
As the first chill of winter creeps into your house, you have no choice but to once again summon the beastly furnace to life. With the push of a button or the twist of a dial, you awaken the furnace from its months-long slumber. Like the Gill-man rising from the depths, it starts with a low rumble—a growl from deep within the basement. You can almost hear the ominous score from a 1950s B-movie soundtrack playing in the background.
And then it begins: the furnace roars to life, belching heat with the intensity of an angry dragon. You might think this creature’s warmth would be comforting, but like any good monster, it offers only false hope. The first blast of hot air feels like relief, but soon, you realize you’ve made a grave mistake.
It Burns Itself Out
The awful struggle begins as the grizzly furnace struggles and strains to combat the oncoming cool weather. The hair on the back of your neck begins to stand on end and it begins to dawn on you too late that this vented swamp monster isn’t up to the task this year. It rattles and strains against its fasteners as it comes to a cold and silent end.
The Final Showdown
You tell yourself you can rely on tutorials and YouTube videos to provide the necessary knowledge to tangle with the basement beast and bring it back to life once more for another season of heating your home, but it is in vain. The needed maintenances to your creature were skipped and now there’s no saving it. You’ll have to find a new creature from the black lagoon of HVAC providers to heat your home this winter.
